Phenological shifts of abiotic events, producers and consumers across a continent

چکیده

Ongoing climate change can shift organism phenology in ways that vary depending on species, habitats and factors studied. To probe for large-scale patterns associated phenological change, we use 70,709 observations from six decades of systematic monitoring across the former Union Soviet Socialist Republics. Among 110 events related to plants, birds, insects, amphibians fungi, find a mosaic defying simple predictions earlier springs, later autumns stronger changes at higher latitudes elevations. Site mean temperature emerged as strong predictor local phenology, but magnitude direction varied with trophic level relative timing an event. Beyond temperature-associated variation, uncover high variation among both sites years, some being characterized by disproportionately long seasons others short ones. Our findings emphasize concerns regarding ecosystem integrity highlight difficulty predicting outcomes. The authors USSR investigate taxa. long-term site further imprints level, event timing, site, year biotic interactions.

Knowledge Producers and Consumers

IntroductIon In a knowledge-based economy, organizations find it difficult to compete based upon the individual knowledge of a few organizational members. This provides the rationale for knowledge management wherein organizational knowledge must be shared, combined, and reused in order to enable organizations to compete more effectively. Hence, knowledge sharing is considered an essential proce...

a comparative pragmatic analysis of the speech act of “disagreement” across english and persian

the speech act of disagreement has been one of the speech acts that has received the least attention in the field of pragmatics. this study investigates the ways power relations, social distance, formality of the context, gender, and language proficiency (for efl learners) influence disagreement and politeness strategies. the participants of the study were 200 male and female native persian s...

Phenological shifts and the fate of mutualisms.

Climate change is altering the timing of life history events in a wide array of species, many of which are involved in mutualistic interactions. Because many mutualisms can form only if partner species are able to locate each other in time, differential phenological shifts are likely to influence their strength, duration and outcome. At the extreme, climate change-driven shifts in phenology may...

Predicting phenological shifts in a changing climate.

Phenological shifts constitute one of the clearest manifestations of climate warming. Advanced emergence is widely reported in high-latitude ectotherms, but a significant number of species exhibit delayed, or no change in, emergence. Here we present a mechanistic theoretical framework that reconciles these disparate observations and predicts population-level phenological patterns based solely o...

Phenological indices of avian reproduction: cryptic shifts and prediction across large spatial and temporal scales

Climate change-induced shifts in phenology have important demographic consequences, and are frequently used to assess species' sensitivity to climate change. Therefore, developing accurate phenological predictions is an important step in modeling species' responses to climate change. The ability of such phenological models to predict effects at larger spatial and temporal scales has rarely been...
